How to Improve Your Chances of Success by an Infinite Amount

May 16, 2008

How to Improve Your Chances of Success by an Infinite AmountRobert Phillips posted an article: Do High Rankings Mean More Traffic? which echoed some of the same findings I'd reported in an article of mine: Good SERP Ranking is NOT Enough several months ago.

Step back a few clicks and you'll come up with a more generic, higher-level question: what does work? What is the key to creating a successful Internet Business that can, at some point, provide you with enough income to survive and even prosper?

Back in a previous job, I worked as a network engineer and then later as a network engineer manager at a network and systems integration company. We all took training and various certifications such as the Cisco exams. Often, the questions on these exams were multiple choice and more than one answer would appear to be correct. One of the methods that proved to be a successful way of approaching these exams, which tend to be very tricky, was to eliminate the wrong, or more incorrect answers, as opposed to trying to pick the right answer directly. For some reason, it's easer to say choice A is possibly right, but it's not as right as choice C, so eliminate choice A.

How does this relate to an Internet Business? Easy, the one biggest way to not succeed is to not try. By not doing anything, you will most definitely fail.

Don't worry about all the things I talk about, or the guys in my BlogRoll talk about. Things like SERPs, Conversion Ratios, Multivariate Testing, product creation, etc. It can be too much. It can present too many variables and too many possibilities. It can be paralyzing. Just get starting doing something you love. Even if you love something obscure, make a web site or a blog and start posting to it. Take those first few steps and you'll automatically increase your chances of success by an infinite amount.

Remember, failure is guaranteed if you take no action. Success is only possible if you take action.

If you've taken those first steps and you're not finding the success you envisioned, start implementing some of the things I mentioned before. Try something different. Take a different approach. Get some help. Each thing you try improves your chances of success by an infinate amount.

You have to keep taking action. You have to keep learning and trying. Maybe you start all over 200 times, but on the 201st try you finally succeed. You'll be glad you hung in there and kept going.

So persevere!

Until Next Time,
Fred

Good advice Fred. Getting started, ANY START, is always the biggest hurdle. Most people plan, prepare, organize and dream... but never find the right time or circumstances to actually take a step. Why? Fear of failure. Fear of the unknown. Lack of courage (it's easier to plan than act). I told someone the other day, "just write your first article. Who cares what it's about. Who cares if its any good. Just get the first one done. Break the ice. Take a step." It is THE hardest part of getting any business (or goal) started. Once you open that door, the floodgates usually swing wide open. I went from one site a year ago, to ten current sites and more in the works... and a dozen or more products... and countless writing projects.

Right on the button Fred. There's so much written about creating an online business that it's easy to get overwhelmed, confused, and put off.

The best way to proceed is read some of the basics, then get going. It's only after you've got some (low cost) experience that you'll understand the more advanced stuff.

They key to a successful internet business is consistency. Most wannabe internet marketers are doing one thing today, another tommorow, and so forth. You have to be consistent and analyze what the result of your actions are. If you're all over the place, you won't be able to gain an appropriate understanding of this business and will be bound to fail.

    Hi,

Am really impressed with your article. This is what online business newbies like myself should be fed with in order to grow.

I think I would have no other option than to ask as many friends on mine as possible to read your article and see for themselves.

Good job indeed. Keep it up.
