The Secret: Not a Genie in a Bottle.

Share/Bookmark

September 28, 2007

The Secret: Not a Genie in a Bottle.I'm always perplexed when I read reviews, blog posts, and comments that rip The Secret to shreds and categorize it as drivel and promoting wishing for something vs. taking action. I didn't get that from it at all. My wife and I watched The Secret a long time ago. We both thought it was great and contained a really powerful message.

Before I watched The Secret, I had read a great deal about the Law of Attraction and manifesting results. Since then I've read, studied and learned more. Everything that I've read about the Law of Attraction defines it as a way to align The Universe, The Divine, God, or what have you, with your needs, wants, and desires. This action of alignment should also motivate you to take actions that will facilitate the fulfillment of those needs, wants, and desires. Taking it a step farther, from the book Zero Limits, this whole process should open up your ability to receive signals, often in the form of intuition, from The Universe, The Divine, God, or what have you, prompting you to take the PROPER actions, not necessarily what YOU thought were the proper actions, to reach the desired end result.

In other words, and in very plain English, the whole process is supposed to get the crap out of the way so that you can communicate more effectively with The Universe, The Divine, God, or what have you. It's no Genie in a Bottle, and it's not a substitute for taking action, but rather, it helps you take correct action.

Why do some people see The Secret as garbage while others see it as the light switch they've been searching for? As humans we're very flawed. Some people balk at anything they don't understand, or don't want to understand. One flaw is our perception of reality. Each of us has a perception of reality that is different than everyone else's and to make it worse, none of them are accurate. We think we know our limitations, our destiny, what we're supposed to do with our lives, and we even think we know what others are supposed to do with their lives. I hate to break this news to everyone, but we don't really have a clue what's going on! You can have a subjective view of reality, or an objective view of reality, or some other view of reality, but we don't understand reality at all. It's easier to live in Denial or Justification than to claw your way up the mountain and move to the much nicer neighborhoods of Achievement, Satisfaction, or Success. Confused? Don't be... Another human flaw is that it makes us feel good to complicate things; it makes us think we've accomplished something by doing so. But life's really pretty simple: learn from a child, they get it!

The one fact that I do understand, is that action is required.

If you watched The Secret and thought it was the dumbest thing you'd ever seen, or, that its message is Wish and Your Dreams Come True, then watch it again with an open mind, and a realization that there is a lot we don't understand about reality.

Until next time,
Fred

I like the "Secret" but I do see how it could be misunderstood.

Norman Vincent Peale in the "Power of Positive Thinking" draws an
analogy to baseball. If you step up to the plate trying to hit a home run, you'll probably strike out. If you just try making contact with the ball, Divinity will take over and who know what will happen.

In other words, Law of attraction works. But, first you have to show up somewhere so Divinity can do it's work in you.

I'm a huge believer in the law of attraction. It's not something that can be explained, only experienced. Perhaps factually, it doesn't make sense, but I can attest that if you let go and live by this principle - it works!

Maybe the ones that just don't get it are just not ready for it yet. When you are ready for something new then you will be willing to view it with an open heart.
