Can a Single Static Web Page Rank High in Google?

Can a Single Static Web Page Rank High in Google?

The question is can a one or two page static web site rank well in Google? By static I mean a site that is not updated regularly.

Google ranks web pages not web sites, but obviously the two are related. The overall structure and content of the web site affects the ranking of its individual pages. The frequency of updates, among a slew of other things, effects ranking as well.

I have a handful of static one or two page sites like this that do rank on the first page of Google for the keyword phrase I optimized them for. I also have a few that I'd like to rank well, but they never will. What's the difference?

The difference is usually the competitiveness of the keyword phrase I'd like to rank for. Obviously if it's some obscure phrase the no one else has ever optimized a web page for, then you'll rank number one or at lease close. That's rare and probably not worthwhile: no one is probably searching for it either! On the other end of the scale are ultra competitive phrases people have been tweaking their sites to rank well for, possibly for years. You're usually out gunned and out manned, and are better off looking for better keywords to target.

Target somewhere in the middle and you have a much better chance of ranking high and getting a good amount of traffic. I talk about selecting keyword phrases in my FREE course Make Money Online. Selecting the keyword(s) you optimize for is critical to being able to rank well and get traffic that is a good match for your site. Select keywords that are too competitive and you'll have trouble ever being found. Select keywords that you have a good chance of ranking well for, but are not used by people willing to buy, signup, or whatever it is you want them to do, and you've wasted your effort. Strike a balance between these to points and you'll generate the type of traffic that you want. I have been known to say that I'd rather have 10 visitors to a site that will make a purchase vs. 10,000 visitors who will not.

As I said before, I talk about selecting keyword phrases in my FREE course Make Money Online, but what about optimizing your web pages and web sites for the keyword phrases you select? I cover that in this product SEO Secrets Revealed.

There are both on-page and off-page optimization factors. On-page means search engine optimization that's done by editing your pages or HTML code. Off-page means anything else you do to boost your search engine ranking. SEO Secrets Revealed shows you how I consistently rank on the first page of Google - check it out.

Until Next Time,
Fred

This is good advice. In order to rank well in search results you have to optimize your page, simple as that. The process may take a while but if done properly, your page will rank. Regards!

Its not as easy as optimizing your site, as the previous comment suggest. If it were the competiton wouldn't be so fierce, and we would have to spend time analyzing that competition. I think the article broke it down nicely. This blog didn't get to this position by optimization alone, it took work and dedicaton. Way to go!

  3. From Fred...

You are correct that Google ranks web page and not sites, however the site that a web page is part of has an impact (sometimes a big impact) on the ranking of individual pages of that site.

  4. From: Keyword Research Services

I think you can get a small static website ranked very well, but it just may be tougher than having a larger website with a lot of supporting content. Those 1 or 2 pages may need a large amount of content that is very well optimized. It would also likely require more backlinks as you wouldn't have a ton of internal links to benefit from.

It definitely is important to target keywords that are the right level of competitiveness. I like to start a page with less competitive phrases. Then as that page builds up links and rankings, I would switch focus to the more competitive phrases. With this strategy it helps if the non-competitive and competitive phrases have overlapping keywords.

I've been thinking about this for a while.. I like the idea of creating single serving websites (that's what they're called).. because you don't have to constantly create new content.

I do think you can get them to rank when you get enough links to it though..

I am in the process of building a static e-com site and needed this bit of info. My wp sites all have good rankings but as you mentioned good traffic does not mean good conversions. I off to check out some of your blog roll links now. Nice one.

I always thought it was the other way round but now I understand. So you can update your page each day and still rank poorly. This piece of information has been very informative.
