Terry Dean has done the world a great service writing this book. This is a book that can literally change you life. As of this writing, I've not finished reading the book. Yet I feel that I have gained immeasurably by what I've read so far.
This book is based on the Bible. Terry does a remarkable job of explaining common misconceptions about the Bible and what it says about money. He points out verses that are commonly taken out of context as well as verses that are usually misunderstood.
This book is, in fact, worth its weight in gold, frankincense, or myrrh: take your pick!
The complete title is: "Financial Freedom, A Step-By-Step Practical Guide for Walking in God's Blessing's".
To put it bluntly, this book makes me feel good! As I read it, I find connection after connection with other books I've recommended here: Zero Limits, and The Key. I find answer after answer to questions I've had circulating around in my head for years. I'm Lutheran and I've been a Christian since birth. A lot of Christians consider money equal to sin. If they don't, then they at least feel guilty about wanting money. This book shows that's not what the Bible teaches, but rather that's how most of us have been (incorrectly) taught.
Terry is an ordained minister. He's grown and sold a million dollar Internet business. Terry's main focus now is being a business and marketing coach who teaches how to "Earn More, Work Less, and Enjoy Life without Compromising Your Values!" We need more of that! Think what a better world we would have if we all embraced that mission statement!
My favorite quote (so far) is from the top of page 80:
For too long we've had a totally wrong attitude about our Father. We've seen Him as an angry God just waiting for us to do something wrong so He can bust our heads. We've been afraid of our father. We haven't trusted our Father to keep his word. Our Father tells us He wants to give us something, and we run around not quite sure if He'll give it to us. |
This quote addresses something that I've heard non-believers or not-so-sure believers say before: that they have trouble believing in a God that punishes you. Well, wake up folks, and smell the coffee He made... He is a loving God. Terry points this out throughout the book, like on page 83 talking about the Parable of the Prodigal Son. Most are familiar with that Parable, however Terry points out that the main thrust of the story is not just the returning son, but his brother who never left home and complained about the gifts their father gave the returning son (who had squandered his inheritance)... his father's response: "all that I have is yours"... the son had just never asked for anything. Had he asked, the father would have provided.
I'd also recommend this book to non-Christians who would like to learn more about the Bible from a different perspective than they've probably heard before. Or even atheists who say that God's never spoken to them: perhaps this book will help them to hear.
